Stopped for pizza here after visiting the Fairbanks museum. Great place to feed a family for an easy lunch. Really, really good pizza.  Stop across the street for dessert!

In northeastern Vermont, the moose crossing signs are a dead giveaway that St. Johnsbury is close to Canada.  Plus, one of the town's claims to fame is having the largest packer of pure maple syrup in the US.  I doubt they're known for their pizza, but I still had to try the place proclaiming to be the Northeast Kingdom's best pizza since 1979 - St. Johnsbury House of Pizza.

The inside wasn't much to look at after the lunch rush, but I was still able to find a clean table.  If you prefer, St. Johnsbury House of Pizza also offers carryout.

For those feeling silly, St. Johnsbury House of Pizza serves grinders, salads, and pasta in addition to pizza.  I was intrigued by their house special pizza, but it had just a few too many toppings for my liking.  Therefore, I ordered my trusty sausage and pepperoni.  I enjoyed the hand-tossed crust that stayed fairly thin until the nice doughy outside, and the sauce had some good seasoning to it.  I was most impressed with the meats though, especially the somewhat spicy sausage.  The golden brown cheese partially covered some of the toppings, and that provided for some surprise bursts of flavor.

If I find myself in the Northeast Kingdom area of Vermont again, then I certainly wouldn't mind dining on another pie from St. Johnsbury House of Pizza.  If you are a pizza lover in the area looking for a place to live, then there is space for tenants above it...who wouldn't want to be able to walk downstairs to fresh pizza every day!?

Stopped in for dinner for the first time while on our travels. We had pepperoni and cheese pizzas. The pizza is very good! Well seasoned, great sauce, and good amount of toppings. We'll definitely return if we're in the St. Jay area.

Their Chicken Bacon Ranch pizza is the best!!! Not NY style pizza, so being expecting that. Order at the counter fountain drinks. This places does causal best. Great place to just hang out and eat pizza. The toasted grinders are AWESOME. Still does the punch cards, spend so much, get a medium pizza free!

Every town in Massachusetts seems to have a "Town Name House of Pizza" at which one can expect an almost exact duplicate of the pizza made at the "Town Name House of Pizza" in the next town. These are often owned by Greek folks who frequently offer tasty Greek specialties on the menu, along with very competent Italian dishes.

This us only fair, since the Romans revered the Athenian culture so much they duplicated aspects of it and its art extensively.

So when visiting St. Johnsbury, we more-or-less knew what to expect at St. Johnsbury House if Pizza. We did get a pizza that could have been made in Malden or Tewksbury. There didn't seem to be any staff with Greek heritage on duty. (Maybe that's why they seemed so unhappy.) They did offer a Greek pizza, but we didn't try it. The two Greek menu items we did try were disappointing, factory made and loveless.

Usually a restaurant loses a star for having a television. These folks get an extra for not having one. Though it was sign-heavy: "Use This Door" (with an arrow to the other one), and "This Area Closed" (blocking half the dining room, why? Just vacuumed?).

We've only been there once, and might go again. It's easier to forgive, however, when the flaws come with a smile.
